Rose Festival, June 6-7, 2009

Rose festival went pretty well this year. We ended out of medal contention by 0.4 seconds after having the finish of the race right before challenged by the third place team. Over all a strong start to the season since our team was about 40% new paddlers. Pictures of rose festival and the pretty boats are below.

Alcan, June 20-21, 2009

Our annual trek to Vancouver had it's ups and downs, but ended well. They use a pretty complex seeding system with each race consisting of 8 boats rather than the normal 4, but our last race ended up as the consolation race for Rec A, which is better than we've done previously. In our normal pre-final warm-up we had the Europe's "Final Countdown" blasting out of the boombox in the marshalling tent, but this time we managed to get the other 7 teams jumping and singing with us. We took first in that race.

Kent, July 11, 2009

We decided to try Kent this year (while others were out besmirching our good name in Salem). It's a bit smaller one-day race with some teams we don't normally compete against, but it went fairly well. This was the only race this year we didn't make it into a final, but we did make the semis of the highest bracket.

Portland Dragon Boat Race, Sept 12-13, 2009

The September races in Portland are always interesting since we come off a big break since the previous race. This year we took first or second in every race, and beat some teams that we weren't expecting. Overall a great end to the season with a second place in the second highest division (ending up about 10th out of 50 teams). Our time in our final race was 1:55.1 which is the only time in the last few years we've gotten a time under 2 minutes.
